Having a low oxygen level in your body’s tissue is called Hypoxia. The presence of symptoms varies upon the patient’s age, level of health, presence of disease process, and presence of terminal illness.
There are many visible signs of hypoxia
- Shortness of breath
- Fast heartbeat
- Coughing
- headache
- Confusion
- Bluish color in skin, fingernails, and lips
- Wheezing
- Mouth breathing and drolling in
children - Possible coma or death (in an extreme scenario)
- Flaring of nostrils or pursed lips
- Restlessness or anxiety

What causes Hypoxia
- Lung conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema
- Sleep apnea
- High altitudes Location
- Scarring or inflammation of the lung tissue
- Heart conditions
- Medicated drugs that hold back breathing
- Anemia
- Cyanide poisoning
Preventive measures
- Keep your asthma under controlled
- Avoid active and passive smoking
- When experiencing hypoxia, use oxygen supplement
- Take prescribed medication
- Stay in shape
- Avoid overexertion
- Eat and drink healthy
- Do routinely medical checkup
Normal oxygen level in blood
In case of healthy people with controlled asthama, the normal oxygen level should be
- 95-95%
- 90-95% in case of higher altitudes, temperature extremes, and physical exertion
However patients with COPD and other lung problems, it’s normal to have an oxygen level range from 88%-92%. Below 88%, in any case, is not good for the vital organs. Out body organs start to shut down, below 80%.
