Yes and this is not unusual. The finger oxygen meter follows the beer lamberts law. In short words, pulse oximeter sends the beam of light. Some of it is absorbed in our tissue while the rest of it strike back to the oximeter sensor.
Reasons for the dropping of value
Sometimes the value might decrease for few seconds due to following reasons
- Prob loosely attached
- Nail polish
- Shaking of probes
- Technical issues
However, don’t forget to do your PFT (pulmonary function tests) and make sure that your pulmonary function is absolutely fine.
Consistent low readings
Consistent low reading isn’t good. If you are healthy and no asthmatic issue. The reading should lie between 95-100%. Otherwise, you will get hypoxia.
In the case of people having COPD or other lung issues, the oxygen saturation level shown by oxygen saturation meter should lie in the range of 88-92%. Below 88%, in any case, is dangerous.
